Former CIA officer David Rush pleaded guilty to wire fraud after stealing about $200 million and keeping 298 gold bars at his home.
A former officer with the Central Intelligence Agency(CIA) in the United States, 49 year old David Rush, has admitted in court that he stole nearly 200 million dollars from the government using fake business deals and lies.
The former senior spy boss pleaded guilty to wire fraud in a federal court in Virginia on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, after federal agents raided his private home and discovered a huge pile of money and stolen items.
Law enforcement officers were shocked to find 298 real gold bars, $2 million in raw cash, and 35 expensive wristwatches kept inside his house.
The whole trouble started after government auditors began checking how money was being spent inside his unit, leading police to carry out a search on his property in May.
Court papers showed that Rush repeatedly asked the government to give him large amounts of foreign money and millions of dollars in gold bars, telling his bosses that he needed the heavy wealth to pay for secret government missions abroad.
However, instead of using the money for official work, he turned around and kept the gold and cash for himself to live like a billionaire.
Investigators revealed that Rush created a fake top-secret government plan just to justify buying luxury mansions in South Florida so he could sell them later and take all the profit.
He used the stolen government money to buy expensive houses, even spending as much as $40,000 just to buy fancy kitchen items for one of the houses.
Court records showed that Rush was able to steal so much money because he acted as his own approval boss, signing off on government money transfers without anybody checking his work properly.
The single wire fraud charge that brought him down is tied directly to a massive $45 million money transfer that he started in January 2026.

In addition to stealing public money, Rush also admitted in court that he gave out top-secret information to a foreign government official who was not allowed to see government secrets.
Prosecutors warned that his dangerous action exposed a secret human spy working for the United States, putting the life of that secret worker and other American officers in real danger.
Explaining the big crime committed by the former officer, CIA Director John Ratcliffe stated that: “Rush abused his position and betrayed the public trust and should be held fully accountable for his actions”.
At the same time, government prosecutors described Rush in court as a “master manipulator” who lied about his military and school background for nearly 20 years just to climb high in government service.
Under the court deal he signed, David Rush has agreed to forfeit all the stolen wealth back to the government. He is giving up four luxury Florida houses, two expensive BMW cars, 35 luxury watches, 298 gold bars, $2 million in cash, and almost 39 million dollars taken directly from his bank accounts.
The federal judge in charge of the case will sentence Rush on January 28. Legal experts note that the wire fraud charge carries a maximum jail sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison.
