President Donald Trump struck a deal with Vladimir Putin to import Russian diesel fuel to bring down high pump prices across America.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has announced a major shift in American foreign and energy policy after reaching an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to import millions of tons of Russian diesel fuel into the United States market.

President Trump officially made the public announcement on Friday, October 9, 2026, while speaking to journalists as he was leaving the White House in Washington to attend a campaign rally ahead of the upcoming United States midterm elections.

The unexpected agreement between Washington and Moscow comes at a time when global energy prices have jumped very high due to conflicts in the Middle East and ongoing supply chain disruptions across international trade routes.

Under the new commercial arrangement, Russia will immediately ship over 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to American ports, followed by an additional batch of 500,000 tons in November, and up to 1 million tons in subsequent deliveries to boost American fuel reserves and lower gas station prices for truck drivers, farmers, and everyday drivers.

Speaking directly to news reporters outside the White House about his phone conversation with the Russian leader and expressing his gratitude for the fuel deal, President Donald Trump stated: “I want to thank President Putin. To be honest with you, we have massive amounts of oil coming into our country, and it’s diesel, which is what we want. So, thank you.”

The American president emphasized that bringing in large supplies of heavy fuel from abroad will help crash high retail pump prices across the country, especially for commercial truck drivers, transport operators, and agricultural workers who use heavy machinery.

Promising fast economic relief for citizens and workers struggling with expensive transport costs, Trump declared that diesel prices for farmers, ranchers, and truckers would come down “in record numbers”.

Reacting from Moscow following the high-level telephone conference between both leaders, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that his country is ready to supply large shipments of petroleum products to stabilize global markets.

Confirming Russia’s participation in the international trade arrangement, President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia “confirmed its readiness to supply oil and oil products to the American and global markets.”

The Russian president also expressed confidence in the long-term economic benefits of the deal, adding: “I am confident that this will have a positive impact on the entire global economy.”

Official statements released by Russian diplomatic representatives after the phone call also highlighted the mutual benefits of the agreement, with Putin’s senior envoy Kirill Dmitriev posting on social media that “Russia-US cooperation on diesel and energy will benefit the world” and confirming that “President Putin and President Trump just had a successful phone call.”

This new energy deal represents a significant policy reversal for the United States government, which had previously banned Russian petroleum imports following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine.

While political opponents and foreign allies have raised questions regarding the decision, White House officials maintain that securing cheap and reliable fuel remains the top priority to protect American families and businesses from inflation.
