A Nigerian professional shared a touching tribute online celebrating his father’s sacrifices, including buying him the famous Ababio chemistry textbook.
A Nigerian professional, identified on social media as Toyyib Adelodun, has shared a deeply emotional and inspiring story detailing the painful sacrifices his hardworking father made to give his children a good education, including travelling all the way from Lagos State to Abeokuta in Ogun State to personally deliver the famous Ababio chemistry textbook just weeks before his West African Senior School Certificate Examination, commonly known as WAEC.
In a viral social media post published in October 2026, the accomplished UK-based engineer reflected on how parental sacrifices eventually bear sweet fruit when children succeed in life.
Recalling the touching moment his father brought the textbook to his school dormitory shortly before his final secondary school examinations began, the writer revealed that money was extremely tight for his family at the time.
Describing his father’s joy when he delivered the long-awaited science textbook to him in school, the poster stated: “My WAEC final exams were only a few weeks away when my dad could finally afford Ababio, the famous chemistry textbook. I still remember the excitement on his face when he arrived to personally deliver it, travelling from Lagos to Abeokuta.”
The writer explained that even though he privately feared the textbook had arrived too late for proper study, he chose not to break his father’s happy heart, choosing instead to show total respect and appreciation for the sacrifice.
Highlighting how he received the book from his loving father, he shared: “I didn’t have the heart to tell him I was worried it might be too late. So I smiled, prostrated and thanked him.”
Speaking on the daily struggles his father endured just to pay school fees and buy learning books, the poster praised his father’s strong work ethic and determination to break the cycle of poverty for his family.
Detailing the hard conditions his father worked under to support his home, the writer stated: “There was hardly any work my dad wouldn’t do to give us an education. He worked in places where salaries went unpaid for months. He endured so much because he wanted his children to have opportunities he never had.”
Fast forward to many years later, the once-struggling student grew up to become a successful engineer working on major multimillion-pound development projects in the United Kingdom.
He had the rare privilege of flying his elderly father to London to show him around the massive sites he was managing.
Describing the joyful moment he walked his father through his engineering sites in the United Kingdom, he noted: “Years later, I was delighted to show him around some of the projects I had worked on in London. I explained what went on behind the scenes, the work involved, and how everything came together. I could only imagine how proud he must have felt.”
Reflecting on how long patience and hard work take to bring positive results, the writer noted that seeing parents enjoy the achievements of their children is one of the greatest blessings in life.
Summarizing the lesson behind his family story, the engineer wrote: “Some sacrifices take years to bear fruit. But what a beautiful thing it is when the people who made them get to witness the harvest.”
Offering heartfelt prayers to all hardworking parents across Nigeria and around the world who continue to labor daily for the future of their offspring, he concluded: “To every parent making sacrifices today so your children can have a better tomorrow: I pray you live long, in good health, to witness and enjoy the fruits of your labour. May your children succeed beyond your wildest dreams.”
Thousands of readers praised the touching story, describing it as a powerful reminder of the priceless value of parental love, resilience, and quality education.
