FCT Minister Nyesom Wike warned Nigerians not to fall for fake humility and political lies from opposition figures ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to citizens across Nigeria, telling them not to fall for political lies and fake shows of humility by opposition politicians as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

The former Rivers State governor launched the scathing attack on Thursday, October 15, 2026, inside the Peach Vine Event Centre in Wuye, Abuja, during his official induction ceremony into the maiden Idoma Hall of Fame as a special friend of the Idoma nation.

Speaking directly to community leaders, political elders, and guests at the hall, the minister accused several prominent politicians seeking power in 2027 of putting up fake lifestyles and staged public actions just to trick ordinary citizens into voting for them.

Exposing how some politicians go to extreme lengths to pretend to be humble only when election season approaches, Chief Nyesom Wike declared: “You know politicians can tell lies. Yes! A man who, as a governor, never celebrated his birthday in IDP camps, now wants to do it there because he wants to be president. And you’ll say he’s humble. Which humility is that?”

He went further to question politicians who suddenly start buying roadside food items, like roasted corn and groundnuts, or driving themselves to local petrol stations just to snap pictures and look like ordinary poor citizens.

Calling out politicians who buy food on the roadside only when seeking votes, Wike asked: “You see a man who has never eaten corn by the roadside. He goes, buys corn and groundnuts, and says he relates with poor people. Who are you deceiving? You were a governor, and you didn’t buy corn on the road. Now you want to be president. When they vote for you, will you still go and buy corn on the road? Who are you deceiving?”

Mocking opposition figures who pretend to be shocked by current economic conditions by driving themselves to filling stations, the minister added: “You enter your car and go to a filling station and say, ‘Oh, look at the cost of fuel.’ Do you need to go there before you know the cost? And then some of you will say, ‘Oh, these are the type of people we want, very humble, you see the way he drove himself.’ Haaa, Nigeria, Nigeria!”

The minister urged Nigerians to stop allowing politicians to manipulate their feelings through fake public shows and online media stories, asking voters to focus only on real facts and proven records of past work.

Warning citizens against falling for political mind games and calculated sympathy moves, Wike stated: “Instead of you saying the factual things, you begin to allow them to play you games and tell you all kinds of stories.”

Concluding his speech before receiving his award of honor, the FCT minister called on all citizens to open their eyes and completely reject politicians who only show up during election periods with big promises.

Giving his final warning message to voters across the country, Nyesom Wike declared: “I will use this opportunity to tell you and let you know, don’t listen to gamblers.”

Wike’s hard hitting remarks have sparked fresh political debates across social media platforms as major political groups prepare for the 2027 election cycle.
