The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports linking it with any political alliance ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to daily post,After a stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia, state chairman Amah Abraham described the reports as false. He said the PDP would field candidates for every elective position in the state.
According to Abraham, the Abia PDP alliance claims do not reflect the party’s position. Instead, he said the PDP would contest the election on its own. He also ruled out adopting candidates from another political party.
Meanwhile, Abraham announced that the party would soon begin selling nomination forms. The exercise will cover the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, governorship and presidential elections.
In addition, Abraham said several members have already shown interest in contesting different offices. He said at least three aspirants want to run for governor. Others are preparing to seek Senate and House of Representatives tickets.
However, Abraham admitted that the PDP faced internal legal disputes in the past. He said the crisis weakened the party’s structure for some time. Even so, he insisted that the issues have largely been resolved.
The chairman also said the party has continued to welcome back members who left during the crisis. As a result, he believes the reconciliation process has strengthened the party ahead of the next election.
Abraham also reaffirmed the party’s position on the Abia PDP alliance. He said the PDP would contest every elective office without entering any coalition. The party would welcome support from every background. However, it would not step down for another party or form an electoral alliance.
The Abia PDP alliance issue, he said, remains settled because the party plans to face the 2027 election independently.
