The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has directed all its state chapters across the country to stop handling ADC court cases. The party also barred them from engaging lawyers without approval from its national leadership.
The directive followed reports that some state chapters received court documents. In addition, the party discovered that some officials hired lawyers without the approval of the National Legal Adviser.
National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi announced the directive in a statement. He said only the national leadership can coordinate ADC court cases and other legal matters involving the party.
The party also instructed every state chapter, official and member not to receive court processes or hire legal practitioners without written approval from the National Legal Adviser. Instead, they must refer every legal matter to the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja.
Furthermore, the ADC directed state executives and legal advisers to forward every court document to the National Headquarters immediately. They must not acknowledge, keep or respond to such documents.
According to the party, the directive will ensure a unified legal strategy. As a result, the national leadership will supervise all ADC court cases. This approach will also prevent conflicting legal positions.
Meanwhile, the ADC warned that no state chapter or official can file court processes, enter appearances, concede claims or take any legal action in the party’s name without express approval from the National Legal Adviser.
As stated in daily post,Finally, the party said the directive takes immediate effect. Therefore, all officials must comply with the new procedure for handling ADC court cases nationwide.
