The Obidient Movement has issued a confrontational warning to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and allies of President Bola Tinubu, threatening a “rig-and-die” resistance against any perceived manipulation of the 2027 general elections.
The escalation follows a recent television appearance by Wike, who dismissed claims by the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate and former Labour Party standard-bearer Peter Obi that he won the 2023 presidential election in Rivers State. Wike asserted that election outcomes are determined strictly at polling units and announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), not by social media narratives or crowd noise.
In a strongly worded statement released on Tuesday, the movement’s Media and Communication Directorate characterized Wike’s remarks as a brazen admission of electoral fraud.
“Even though this reconfirms what we have always known about the outcome of the 2023 elections, it is jarring to hear it once again in a braggadocio manner from a perpetual nuisance, Wike, on national TV,” the statement read.
The group drew a sharp parallel between alleged electoral manipulation and treason, arguing that the “criminality” committed by Wike and his associates is “worse than a military coup.” It lamented that while coup plotters face prosecution, such political actors are “rewarded with juicy political offices.”
The movement’s directive to its supporters was unambiguous and severe. “The Obidient Movement hereby invites Wike and his co-conspirators to make sure they write their will before the 2027 elections, as Nigerians are determined to enforce the rig-and-die mantra from the polling units to the collation centres,” the statement declared. It warned that any attempt to subvert the people’s will “would be met with forceful resistance, including the possible infliction of terminal wounds on such people.”
Broadening the scope of its grievances, the group also issued direct warnings to the electoral umpire and security agencies. It accused INEC of exhibiting partisan loyalty to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and demanded an end to the conduct of what it described as “charade” elections. Furthermore, it cautioned security personnel against facilitating electoral manipulation, stating that officers who act against voters could be treated as enemies, akin to armed robbers.
The movement also addressed political thugs directly, urging them not to allow politicians to use them to disrupt elections, warning that they would be abandoned once the polls conclude.
As the 2027 election cycle accelerates, the Obidient Movement’s rhetoric highlights a volatile political climate where trust in institutional processes is severely fractured. By explicitly rejecting the prospect of post-election litigation and vowing to defend results at the polling units, the movement is signaling that the next electoral cycle will be defined not by courtroom battles, but by fierce, on-the-ground resistance to any perceived disenfranchisement.
