Ariana Grande Demands White House Stop Using Her Music in ICE Video

A 14 second social media clip has sparked a public clash between one of the world’s biggest pop stars and the White House. After discovering her song was being used in a video promoting immigration arrests, Ariana Grande responded with a message that left little room for interpretation.

Ariana Grande has publicly criticized the Trump administration after the White House used her 2024 song “Bye” in a TikTok video highlighting immigration enforcement operations carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The video, posted on the White House’s official TikTok account, featured footage of federal agents arresting and handcuffing individuals while Grande’s song played in the background. The post carried the caption: “Bye-bye. President Trump has delivered the most secure border in history.”

Grande quickly responded.

In a comment on the video, the Grammy-winning singer wrote:

“Please do not ever use my music in relation to this barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense.”

A source close to the singer told Reuters that her team immediately began looking into ways to have the music removed from the clip. Within hours, the audio associated with the video appeared to have been muted or removed.

The White House did not back down.

Responding to Grande’s criticism, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson defended the administration’s position and argued that the real issue was criminal activity committed by some undocumented immigrants.

“We’ll say this one last time: what’s actually barbaric, inhumane, and heinous are the criminal illegal aliens who have injured and murdered innocent American citizens,” Jackson said.

The exchange quickly spread across social media, becoming one of the most discussed entertainment and political stories of the week.

For Grande, the reaction was consistent with positions she has taken in recent years. The singer has frequently criticized Trump administration policies, particularly on immigration issues. She has previously shared messages supporting immigrant communities and has publicly backed Democratic political candidates.

The dispute also highlights a growing trend.

Since returning to office, the Trump administration’s social media team has frequently used popular music in short form videos promoting administration policies. Several artists have objected after discovering their songs were being used in content tied to immigration enforcement, military actions, or political messaging they oppose.

Grande is far from the first musician to challenge the use of her work in a political context.

Over the years, artists including Celine Dion, Beyoncé, Bruce Springsteen and several younger pop stars have publicly objected when politicians or government entities used their music without their approval.

The controversy is about more than one song. It reflects an increasingly common collision between politics, social media, and celebrity influence, where a single post can instantly become part of a much larger national debate.

Although the music has now been removed from the video, the dispute has added another high profile celebrity voice to the ongoing debate surrounding immigration enforcement and the administration’s aggressive use of social media to promote its policies.
