Dangote Refinery cut petrol prices for marketers as crude oil prices dropped in the global market.
Good news reached vehicle owners, business drivers, and everyday consumers across Nigeria on Monday, September 21, 2026, as the massive Dangote Petroleum Refinery officially reduced the price of its petrol.
The mega refinery located in the Lekki area of Lagos State announced that it lowered the selling price of fuel to petroleum marketers who buy in bulk from its facility.
This price drop brings big relief to millions of citizens who have been paying high prices to buy petrol for their cars, generator sets, and small business machines across towns and cities.
The main reason why the refinery was able to bring down the price of petrol is that the cost of crude oil, which is the raw, unrefined oil taken out of the ground to make petrol, has dropped significantly in the international market.
In recent weeks, the price of crude oil fell in world trading markets, meaning the refinery spent less money buying raw crude.
Because the refinery bought its raw materials at a cheaper cost, it decided to pass that benefit directly down to local fuel sellers and Nigerian consumers so that petrol can become more affordable at filling stations.
Explaining how the reduction in raw oil costs directly made local petrol cheaper for everyone, top officials and management of the refinery shared official statements regarding the new price structure.
Confirming the decision to bring down the cost of fuel for distributors, the management of Dangote Group stated that “the reduction in petrol prices reflects the current drop in crude oil prices in the international market, making it possible to pass on savings to Nigerians”.
Highlighting the main goal of providing cheap and available fuel to the country, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, previously noted that “our goal has always been to ensure that Nigeria receives quality, locally refined petroleum products at competitive and fair market prices”.
Reassuring petrol marketers and everyday citizens that the refinery will continue to supply plenty of fuel without shortages, official statements added that “the refinery has sufficient capacity and stock to meet the entire nation’s daily petrol demand without any interruption”.
National news reports confirm that petroleum marketers have welcomed the new price adjustment with joy. Major oil sellers say that as soon as tankers finish loading the cheaper fuel from the Lagos refinery depot, filling stations across different states will begin to drop their pump prices to reflect the new lower cost.
Energy experts note that when fuel prices drop, the cost of transport fares and food items in local markets will also reduce over time.
