A lawyer prosecuting the cyberstalking case against Omoyele Sowore has sparked fresh debate after revealing his possible choice in the 2027 presidential election.
According to SaharaReporters, the prosecutor said he could vote for Sowore if the activist convinced him with better ideas than other candidates. The comment came during proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The prosecutor, A.T. Kehinde (SAN), made the remark after defence lawyer Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika suggested that he was handling the case as a personal battle. Kehinde immediately rejected the claim. He insisted that he had no personal grudge against Sowore. Instead, he said his political preference would depend on which candidate presented the strongest vision for Nigeria. As a result, he noted that he could even support Sowore ahead of President Bola Tinubu in 2027 if persuaded. The DSS prosecutor 2027 vote comment quickly drew attention inside the courtroom.
Kehinde also explained that his position as the prosecutor would not affect his personal political decision. Meanwhile, human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju testified as the first defence witness. He told the court that he had known Sowore for years as an activist and former presidential candidate. The prosecution also asked the court to revoke Sowore’s bail. Kehinde argued that the activist had failed to satisfy all the conditions attached to his release. However, the defence disagreed with the request. Counsel explained that the delay resulted from the process of retrieving Sowore’s passport from the United States Embassy rather than any refusal to obey the court’s order.
Justice Mohammed Umar later ruled that the court would wait until 4 p.m. for the remaining bail conditions to be fulfilled. He also directed the defence to ensure full compliance before the next stage of the trial.
