While much of the AI spotlight has focused on startups building powerful models, some of Europe’s biggest and oldest technology companies are quietly becoming some of the industry’s biggest winners by helping businesses put artificial intelligence to work.
Europe’s established technology firms are emerging as unexpected beneficiaries of the artificial intelligence boom as companies shift from experimenting with AI to deploying it across their day-to-day operations.
Recent earnings from companies including SAP, Capgemini, Sopra Steria and OVHcloud show stronger demand and improved growth as businesses increasingly seek help integrating AI into existing software, data systems and business processes rather than simply buying access to AI models.
Industry analysts say many large organisations are discovering that implementing AI is far more complex than expected. Instead of relying on a single AI provider, businesses are using different models for different tasks while trying to meet security, regulatory and compliance requirements.
“AI applications are the battleground, and that is where most value will be created,” analysts at UBS said in a recent research note.
That trend is playing to the strengths of Europe’s long-established software, consulting and cloud infrastructure companies, which have spent decades helping major organisations modernise complex technology systems.

The strongest demand is coming from highly regulated sectors such as healthcare, defence, finance and public services, where businesses need AI tools that can work safely with sensitive data while meeting strict European regulations.
Cloud providers such as OVHcloud and Scaleway are also benefiting as more customers look for European-based AI infrastructure that offers greater control over data and complies with the region’s digital sovereignty rules.
The shift suggests the biggest opportunities in AI may not lie only with companies building frontier models, but also with firms that can successfully integrate those technologies into real-world business operations.
While analysts say these companies must still prove that AI demand can deliver sustained long-term profit growth, recent results indicate Europe’s established technology firms are becoming key players in turning AI from a promising tool into practical business infrastructure.
