INEC Opens Portal For 2027 General Elections Temporary Ad-Hoc Staff Recruitment

INEC officially opened its portal to recruit temporary workers for the 2027 general elections, closing November 18.

The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC)  has officially opened its online application platform for recruiting temporary ad-hoc workers across Nigeria ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections.

According to an official public notice issued by the electoral body from its headquarters in Abuja, the dedicated recruitment portal, known as INECPRES, was launched for public access at eight o’clock in the morning on Friday, September 18, 2026.

The commission announced that the recruitment exercise will remain open for two full months, giving interested citizens until twelve o’clock midnight on Wednesday, November 18, 2026, to complete and submit their online application forms.

The recruited temporary workers will serve during the Presidential and National Assembly elections set for January 16, 2027, as well as the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections scheduled for February 6, 2027.

The main reason why the electoral commission opened this nationwide recruitment portal early is to recruit, screen, and properly train about 1.4 million temporary workers who will manage voting duties across more than 176,000 polling units nationwide.

Because organizing elections across thirty-six states and the Federal Capital Territory requires massive manpower, the commission hires temporary election workers every four years to help with accreditation, counting votes, managing computer devices, and directing voters at voting centers.

To ensure transparency and prevent election malpractice, the commission is inviting specific groups of qualified Nigerians, including serving Youth Corp members, former corps members, university and polytechnic students, federal and state civil servants, and computer technical experts.

Explaining the exact opening dates, time frames, and how citizens should access the recruitment portal, the official public notice from the commission provided clear guidance.

Giving the official timetable for the nationwide application exercise, the electoral commission stated, “the INEC Portal for Recruitment of Election Staff, known as INECPRES, will open at 8am on Friday, September 18, 2026, and close at midnight on Wednesday, November 18, 2026”.

Highlighting the importance of selecting the right job category before submitting personal details, the notice advised, “eligibility varies according to the position, an applicant’s institution, employment status and educational background”.

Stressing that candidates facing technical issues or needing help can contact the official helpdesk at any time, the commission added that “applicants can use the 0700-CALL-INEC vanity number or email inecpress@inec.gov.ng for enquiries”.

The application process is completely free of charge. Interested citizens are instructed to visit the official website, choose a position they qualify for, enter their personal and bank details carefully, upload a clear passport photograph, and print out their final acknowledgment slip.
