FG Tells Nigerians in South Africa to Board Evacuation Flights Amid Fresh Xenophobia

The Federal Government has asked Nigerians in South Africa to use the FG evacuation flights if they no longer feel safe.

According to Daily Post, the appeal follows fresh xenophobic attacks. The government also demanded justice for Nigerians who lost their lives.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the killings. It urged South African authorities to begin immediate investigations. In addition, it called for the arrest and prosecution of everyone responsible. The ministry also asked the authorities to improve security for Nigerians and other foreign nationals.

Furthermore, the government encouraged affected citizens to take advantage of the FG evacuation flights. It said the flights remain available for anyone willing to return home. As a result, Nigerians facing danger can leave the country safely.

Similarly, the ministry expressed sympathy to the families of the victims. It assured them that diplomatic efforts would continue. Moreover, it said it would keep engaging South African authorities until justice is served.

Finally, the Federal Government urged Nigerians to remain calm. It also advised them to avoid retaliatory actions. Instead, it asked them to cooperate with the relevant authorities. At the same time, it promised to monitor the situation closely. The government added that the FG evacuation flights remain part of its efforts to protect Nigerians abroad.
