Former Benue Governor Samuel Ortom faces accusations of playing double games by supporting both President Tinubu and Peter Obi for 2027.
Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has found himself in big political trouble after civic groups and state officials accused him of playing double political games ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The heavy accusation came out in public in Makurdi, Benue State, on Friday, September 11, 2026, after political watchdog groups and the current Benue State Government raised eyebrows over Ortom’s actions.
People in the state became very confused because Samuel Ortom had openly declared on television that he was supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.
However, secret details emerged showing that Ortom sent his personal bulletproof jeep to pick up opposition leader Peter Obi at the military airport when Obi visited Makurdi.
The main reason why people are angry and calling out the former governor is that politicians are not allowed to stand with two rival sides at the same time in serious election matters.
Political observers explained that Ortom claims to be working with Minister Nyesom Wike to win Benue State for President Tinubu, but at the same time, he is giving secret help to Peter Obi to win the same presidential vote in 2027.

A civil society group called the Democratic Action Group checked government transport records and discovered that the black SUV with registration number GWA 608 BT used to carry Peter Obi away from trouble during his recent visit belongs directly to Samuel Ortom.
Exposing the secret support given to the opposition party leader, the Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, stated that “Ortom is stealthily working for Peter Obi”.
Addressing Ortom’s claims that he had completely dumped the opposition for the ruling party, state government representatives added that “despite the public claims by Ortom that he is working for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, the former Governor is supporting Obi”.
Political leaders across Benue State are now demanding that Samuel Ortom come out clean and tell the public where he truly stands before the 2027 campaign starts.
