Former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed reports claiming he received a ₦500 billion offer to contest against Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election.
According to Daily Post, Goodluck Jonathan described the allegation as false. He also urged Nigerians to ignore the report.
According to his media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, an unknown website published the claim without credible evidence. Furthermore, the report failed to state when the alleged offer happened. It also did not identify who made the offer or where it took place.
Meanwhile, Eze said the publication lacked the basic facts expected in responsible journalism. As a result, he described it as fake news aimed at dragging Goodluck Jonathan into political controversy ahead of the 2027 election.
In addition, Eze warned that false political stories often spread as elections draw closer. Therefore, he urged Nigerians to verify sensational claims before sharing them.
The statement also stressed that Goodluck Jonathan never made such a claim. Instead, it asked the public to disregard the report completely.
Although Goodluck Jonathan remains a subject of political speculation, he has not announced any plan to contest the 2027 presidential election. Instead, his aide said the former president remains focused on promoting peace, democracy and good governance.
