The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has claimed INEC denied access code needed to upload the names of its candidates to the electoral commission’s nomination portal ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Daily Post, the party said the development stalled its nomination process. It also linked the situation to the recent Federal High Court judgment that ordered its deregistration.
Speaking on Sunday, the NDC’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, said party officials visited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to collect the access code. However, he said officials told them the commission would respond later.
“We approached INEC to collect the access code to upload the names of our candidates to the INEC portal. They told us that they will get back to us,” Director said.
He argued that the party did everything required to complete the nomination process. He insisted the delay happened because INEC denied access code needed to access the nomination portal.
Director also said the party would continue its legal battle against the court judgment. He disclosed that its legal team would file a stay of execution while pursuing an appeal.
While he expressed confidence that the party would overturn the ruling. He added that the NDC would return to INEC to seek the access code again.
The party maintained that it remains committed to participating in the 2027 general elections. It also urged the electoral commission to act quickly so political parties can meet the required deadlines.
The development comes as the NDC faces legal uncertainty over the court’s decision. Despite the challenge, party leaders said they would continue to explore every legal option available.
INEC had not responded publicly to the allegation at the time of filing this report.
The NDC said it expects the electoral commission to address the issue without delay. It maintained that INEC denied access code has disrupted its preparations for the next general election.
