JAMB has allowed students who lost their registered SIM cards or email accounts to change them once at CBT centers.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially removed the ban that stopped students from changing their registered phone numbers and email addresses.
According to an official public statement released by the examination body from its headquarters on Monday, September 21, 2026, students who lost their phone SIM cards or can no longer open their email accounts can now update their details through a special security process.
The board explained that this new opportunity started immediately on Monday and was specially created to help genuine students who were previously stuck and could not complete their school admission process because they lost their registered phone lines.
The main reason why the examination board decided to bring back this service is that many honest students were facing big problems after losing their phone lines or forgetting their email passwords.
In the past, JAMB stopped people from changing SIM cards and email addresses because bad people and examination fraudsters were using the opportunity to hack into students’ accounts, change their details, and steal their admission spots.
However, the examination board explained that it has now brought in stronger computer security and fingerprint scanning systems that can easily catch any liar or thief trying to steal another student’s account.

Explaining how the new policy will work and the strict security steps every student must follow, the Director of Public Affairs and Protocol at JAMB, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, gave clear details to the public.
Giving the main reason behind the decision, Dr. Fabian Benjamin stated that “the decision followed the introduction of stronger identity and biometric verification measures, which would help prevent fraud, impersonation and unauthorised changes to candidates’ records”.
Warning students that nobody can use this special service more than once, the JAMB spokesperson stressed that “the facility can only be used once by each candidate and is available only at designated JAMB CBT, PTC/PRC Centres, including applicable state offices”.
Giving strict guidelines to avoid roadside cybercafé scams, the official statement added that candidates should “use the facility only for genuine cases and avoid patronising unauthorised computer business centres”.
Candidates must follow seven simple steps to complete the process. First, the student must log in to their JAMB page, pay the official fee online, and go straight to an approved JAMB CBT center.
At the center, the candidate will do a fingerprint scan, show a court affidavit from a legal court, type in the new phone number or email, and submit it for final update.
