Rivers Police cleared CP Olugbenga Adepoju of land grabbing claims, stating officers only guarded a court bailiff at Victory Estate.
The Rivers State Police Command has officially cleared the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olugbenga Adepoju, of all bad accusations linking him to land grabbing at Victory Estate inside Rumuosi Community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
In an official police statement released to journalists on Monday, September 21, 2026, the police command described a viral online video accusing the police boss of stealing or taking over people’s land as a total falsehood and a trick meant to confuse the public.
The police explained that the head of police in the state never took any piece of land for himself or for anyone else in the community, but only approved security personnel to protect court officers who came to do their official job.
The main reason why the police command came out to clear the air is that a video started spreading fast on social media showing residents crying out that the police commissioner helped some powerful men seize land belonging to local homeowners in Victory Estate.
Giving a full background of what really happened, the police explained that on March 6, 2025, a lawyer applied for police protection so that a court bailiff could carry out a court judgment from the Customary Court in Choba.
After checking all court papers, the police sent officers on April 7 and 8, 2025, to keep peace while the court bailiff worked.
However, when landlord residents complained that the court judgment was meant for a different community called Rumuagholu and not Victory Estate in Rumuosi, the police stopped the work immediately and started a proper investigation.
Explaining how police findings proved that the court paper was used on the wrong piece of land, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe Kaborlo, gave a very clear statement to the press.

Setting the record straight on behalf of the police command, ASP Blessing Agabe Kaborlo stated, “The command categorically dismisses the allegation as false and misleading and wishes to set the record straight by providing the accurate facts and clarifying the circumstances surrounding the matter”.
Sharing what the official land mapping office discovered after checking government maps, the police spokesperson noted, “The Surveyor General subsequently confirmed that the area covered by the survey/site plan was within Rumuagholu Community and did not cover Victory Estate, Rumuosi Community”.
Emphasizing that the Police Commissioner did not grab any land or keep any house for himself, the official statement added, “The command therefore wishes to make it clear that CP Olugbenga Adepoju neither grabbed, acquired nor took possession of any land belonging to Victory Estate, Rumuosi Community”.
The police have now taken four suspects to court for trying to use court papers on the wrong land. The police also issued a strong warning to all police officers across Rivers State never to enter any land to fight or guard land unless they have proper written permission from top police authorities.
