Governor Agbu Kefas has renewed his administration’s plan to rebuild and expand the Taraba State Government House.
The governor made the commitment while receiving reports from committees set up to examine the Government House expansion and security situation. According to Daily Post, the reports are expected to guide the state government’s next steps on the project.
Kefas said the Government House had remained largely unchanged for decades. He noted that the complex no longer meets the demands of modern governance.
The proposed project will involve expansion, reconstruction and rehabilitation of several structures within the complex. The goal is to create a more functional environment for government operations. The Committee on the Acquisition and Compensation of Land also submitted its report to the governor.
Its chairman, Rev. Jolly Nyame, was represented by the Head of Service, Dr Ahmed Kara. He said the committee consulted affected landowners and other stakeholders before submitting its recommendations.
The government also received a report from the Zonal Security Summit Committee. The committee was led by the Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, John Kizito Bonzena. It examined security concerns across the state and proposed measures to improve coordination and public safety.
Kefas’ latest move places the Government House expansion alongside his administration’s wider infrastructure plans. The governor wants the complex transformed into a modern administrative centre. He also expects the redevelopment to improve the working environment for state officials.
The reports will now provide a framework for government decisions on the proposed expansion and reconstruction. For Taraba residents, the project could mark a major change to a government complex that has remained largely untouched for decades.
