NDLEA rearrested 83 year old grandma Uloma Uchechi Sunday in Abia State with Meth and Colorado, months after paying a fine for drug crimes.
Officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) have rearrested an 83 year old grandmother, Mrs. Uloma Uchechi Sunday, for selling dangerous hard drugs inside her community in Abia State.
The old woman was caught by drug officers on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at her family house in Ite-Uzo, Umuaguama, located inside Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
The arrest came barely a year after she was convicted by a court of law for similar drug crimes and paid a court fine to gain her freedom.
During the emergency raid conducted at her village house, NDLEA officers searched her body and discovered parcels of dangerous illegal drugs, including Methamphetamine, popularly called Meth or Mkpuru Mmiri, and Colorado, tied tightly around her waist beneath her wrapper.
Security report showed that the old woman turned her village residence into a dangerous drug den where bad boys, cultists, and criminals who terrorize peaceful residents gather to buy drugs and plan evil deeds.
Releasing an official statement on Sunday to explain how the arrest happened, the official spokesperson for the NDLEA, Mr. Femi Babafemi, revealed that the agency had been monitoring the old woman following complaints from local villagers about rising crime.
Explaining the previous court case involving the old woman and her daughter, Femi Babafemi noted: “Uloma’s first encounter with the law was on 17th May 2025 when she was arrested by NDLEA operatives at her residence in the same village alongside her daughter, Chisom Uchechi, 32, with 50 grammes of methamphetamine, 522 grammes of skunk, 260 grammes of fresh cannabis leaves and 12 grammes of tramadol.”
The NDLEA spokesman added that when mother and daughter appeared in court during their first trial, both of them pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges.
The judge sentenced each of them to 12 months in prison or a fine of 200,000 Naira each, which they paid immediately and walked home free.
Expressing disappointment over how the 83 year old woman quickly went back to crime after paying her fine, Babafemi stated: “Undeterred, the notorious old woman promptly returned to the criminal trade and escalated the scale by setting up a drug joint where she harbours dangerous characters.”
In a related anti-drug operation, NDLEA officers stationed at the Port Harcourt International Airport in Omagwa, Rivers State, working together with Nigeria Customs officers, arrested a 30 year old South African woman named Gebashe Sithandiwe Jessie.
She was caught with 30 big parcels of a strong foreign weed known as Thai Loud, weighing 32.74 kilograms, hidden inside two travelling bags.
The South African suspect arrived at the Port Harcourt airport aboard a Qatar Airways flight from Thailand through Doha.
During police questioning, she admitted that she had previously smuggled hard drugs through other African countries and decided to expand her drug trafficking business into Port Harcourt before she was caught.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (retired), praised the officers for their hard work and directed that all suspects be charged to court without delay.
