NYSC Gets New Look as FG Swaps Khaki for Adire

The Federal Government has announced plans to introduce the NYSC Adire uniform as part of reforms to the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC. The proposal will replace the traditional khaki worn by corps members.

According to daily post report, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, disclosed the plan during a meeting with the NYSC Director-General, Olakunle Nafiu, and the scheme’s management team.

According to Alausa, the reform aims to modernise the NYSC while promoting Nigeria’s local textile industry. He said Adire reflects the country’s rich cultural heritage and deserves wider recognition.

The minister explained that the change is not only about a new outfit. Instead, it forms part of broader efforts to strengthen the scheme and make it more relevant to national development.

He added that the NYSC Adire uniform would encourage the use of locally made fabrics. It would also support textile producers and create more economic opportunities.

Furthermore, Alausa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the NYSC. He said ongoing reforms would focus on skills development, entrepreneurship and national unity.

Nafiu welcomed the proposal during the meeting. He said the NYSC remains ready to support reforms that improve its operations and prepare corps members for life after service.

He also assured the minister that the scheme would continue working with the Federal Government to implement policies that benefit young Nigerians.
