Reigning Miss Austria Lucia Sisic Dies at Age 22 After Lifelong Heart Battle

Reigning Miss Austria Lucia Sisic has died at the age of 22. The pageant organizers confirmed the tragic news on Monday, though a specific cause of death has not yet been publicly released.

Sisic, who was crowned Miss Austria in 2024, had lived with a severe congenital heart condition since birth. Over the course of her short life, she underwent seven major operations. Despite the immense physical toll, she remained the active titleholder, as no subsequent national contest had yet been staged.

Throughout her time in the public eye, Sisic was remarkably open about her medical journey. In 2024, she took to Instagram to express her profound gratitude to the pediatric medical teams who had cared for her since infancy.

Thanks to the medical staff and the dedicated doctors who time and again saved my life through their tremendous efforts, I have overcome many difficult moments and been able to lead a fulfilling life,” she wrote at the time.

She also reflected on how her health shaped her early years, noting that she often had to sit out school sports weeks while other children played. “My childhood was simply different, but it also made me strong,” she told the Austrian outlet Heute.

Tributes have poured in from across the country. Mission Austria, the organization behind the pageant, expressed “great shock and deep sorrow,” remembering her as a “wonderful young woman” and extending heartfelt condolences to her family and friends.

Herzkinder Österreich, a charity dedicated to supporting children with heart conditions, also paid tribute to the young queen. In a statement, the organization said it was “deeply saddened by the untimely death” of Sisic, adding that “at just 22 years old, she left us far too soon.”

Lucia Sisic’s life was defined not by the limitations of her health, but by the resilience she showed in overcoming them. She wore her crown with a quiet dignity, proving that true strength is not about avoiding hardship, but about facing it with grace, gratitude, and an open heart.
