African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has raised fresh questions over the leadership of Osun State ahead of the governorship election.
According to daily post,Sowore alleged that Governor Ademola Adeleke does not have full control of his administration. The AAC candidate made the claim on Thursday while appearing on News Central TV’s breakfast programme.
According to Sowore, members of Adeleke’s family have significant influence over the affairs of the state. He specifically mentioned the governor’s sister and elder brother, Adedeji Adeleke, who is the father of music star Davido.
“What I saw in Adeleke’s leadership is that the guy is not even in control of his government,” Sowore said.
He further claimed that information available to him suggested that the governor’s sister plays a major role in running the state. Sowore also alleged that Adeleke’s elder brother has considerable influence over the government.
“I heard that Adeleke’s sister is the one running the state. And his elder brother, who is Davido’s father, also,” he said. “So it’s a family, pretty much, running the state,” Sowore added.
However, Sowore did not provide specific evidence during the interview to support his claims about the family’s alleged control of the government. His comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the Osun governorship election.
The election has attracted increased attention, with major political parties and their candidates stepping up campaigns across the state. Sowore also criticised Adeleke’s recent appearance at an Arise TV town hall programme involving candidates in the election.
The AAC presidential candidate said he was unimpressed by the governor’s performance during the programme. He described himself as “appalled” by what he saw, arguing that the governor’s presentation raised further concerns about his leadership.
Adeleke is seeking another term as governor as he faces opposition from candidates backed by rival political parties. The growing political contest has also triggered a series of accusations and counter-accusations among the parties.
Sowore’s latest comments add to the criticism surrounding Adeleke’s administration as the state moves closer to the governorship election.
The governor and his allies have continued to campaign on the record of the administration while seeking support from voters across Osun.
