President Bola Tinubu has handed Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun a crucial role in his campaign for the 2027 presidential election.
Abiodun was appointed Director of Fundraising for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council. According to Daily Post, the appointment was contained in the list of members of the campaign council released by the Presidency.
The move comes as the APC begins to build its campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general elections. Tinubu will serve as Chairman of the campaign council. Vice President Kashim Shettima will be the Vice Chairman.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda will also serve as Vice Chairman. Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari was named Director-General of the campaign council. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will serve as Secretary.
Abiodun will oversee fundraising efforts for the campaign. His role will involve mobilising financial support for Tinubu’s re-election bid. The appointment gives the Ogun governor a prominent place in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 contest.
Several other senior APC figures were also given key positions. Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas were named Deputy Directors-General.
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni also received a Deputy Director-General role. Senator Adams Oshiomhole was appointed Deputy Director-General in charge of mobilisation.
James Abiodun Faleke will oversee election planning, coordination and monitoring. The campaign council will also have directorates for media, new media, legal affairs, mobilisation and other areas.
Tinubu has directed members of the council to work together towards securing victory for the APC in 2027. He also asked the directorates to accommodate party members who were not included in the formal list.
The President said the campaign should highlight his administration’s achievements and communicate its policies to Nigerians.
With Abiodun taking charge of fundraising, Tinubu’s campaign team now has another influential governor playing a key role in the 2027 election battle.
