Umeh accuses PMP of plot to block NDC from 2027 election

Umeh accuses PMP of being part of a plan to stop the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) from taking part in the 2027 general election.

According to Daily Post, the senator representing Anambra Central, Victor Umeh, made the allegation during an interview on Arise Television. He claimed that the Peace Movement Party (PMP) was being used to frustrate the NDC after a recent court ruling affected the party’s registration.

According to Umeh, everything changed after several well-known politicians joined the NDC. As a result, Umeh accuses PMP of using the courts to prevent the party from gaining momentum ahead of the next election.

However, he argued that the dispute over the party’s logo should not have led to the judgment. Umeh explained that once the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) registered the NDC with the victory sign, the symbol legally became the party’s official logo.

“The logo does not belong to PMP because it is not a registered political party.”

He added that only parties recognised by INEC have exclusive rights to their approved symbols.

Furthermore, Umeh questioned the court’s latest decision. He noted that the same court had earlier ordered INEC to register the NDC. Therefore, he believes the new ruling contradicts the earlier judgment instead of following the normal appeal process.

Umeh accuses PMP of working behind the scenes to keep the NDC out of the 2027 election. He warned that the decision could prevent the party and its candidates from participating unless it is overturned.

Meanwhile, the NDC has said it will challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal as it fights to remain in the race for the 2027 general election.
