Why South-East Missed Atiku’s Ticket – Kenneth Okonkwo

Kenneth Okonkwo has explained why no politician from Nigeria’s South-East qualified to become the running mate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the 2027 election.

According to daily post, Kenneth Okonkwo rejected claims that the South-East was deliberately excluded. He said the decision followed political strategy, not regional bias.

He explained that the coalition expects the South-East to produce a presidential candidate. For that reason, the region could not also produce the vice-presidential candidate.

Okonkwo said the arrangement aims to strengthen the coalition before the 2027 general election. He added that the choice reflects political realities across the country.

He urged Nigerians not to see the decision as an attack on the South-East. He insisted that every region has an important role in the coalition’s plans.

Kenneth Okonkwo maintained that the coalition considered fairness and electoral strategy before reaching its decision.
