Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has hinted at a major political realignment ahead of the 2027 general election.
Wike suggested that President Bola Tinubu could soon enjoy support from a broad coalition of politicians across different political parties.
The former Rivers State governor made the disclosure while speaking about recent political developments involving Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
According to Daily Post, Wike said Adeleke now belongs to their political camp while hinting at plans to build what he described as the “largest rainbow coalition” in support of Tinubu.
The statement has attracted attention because Adeleke is a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and has been closely associated with the opposition camp.
Wike, however, appeared confident that the political landscape could change significantly before the 2027 election. “In the next few weeks, watch what is going to happen,” Wike said, while predicting a broad political alliance for Tinubu.
He further suggested that the coalition would bring together politicians from different political backgrounds. Wike’s comments come amid growing political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with politicians increasingly making moves that could reshape existing alliances.
The minister also spoke about Adeleke’s recent visit to him in Abuja. The Osun governor was accompanied by his nephew, popular Afrobeats singer Davido. The meeting has sparked political speculation, particularly because of Adeleke’s position within the PDP and the wider opposition camp.
Wike’s latest comments have now added another layer to those speculations, raising questions about whether Adeleke and other opposition figures could eventually align with Tinubu ahead of the 2027 poll.
The FCT minister has also maintained that the opposition faces a difficult task if it hopes to defeat Tinubu at the next presidential election. His reference to a “rainbow coalition” suggests that the coming months could witness further movement across party lines.
With 2027 drawing closer, such political realignments could become increasingly important as parties and politicians prepare for what is expected to be a closely watched presidential contest.
