Kelechi Iheanacho set a historic record in Turkish football by scoring in 10 consecutive matches, leading Bursaspor to a 3-0 victory over Muglaspor.
Nigerian international football star and Super Eagles attacker, Kelechi Iheanacho, has officially made national sports history in Turkey by becoming the first player ever to score goals in ten straight matches across professional league football in the country.
The 30 year old former Manchester City and Leicester City striker achieved the historic milestone on Thursday, October 15, 2026, after delivering a masterclass performance by scoring two goals and providing a goal assist to lead his club, Bursaspor, to a comfortable 3-0 victory against Muglaspor in the Turkish 1. Lig.
Following the match, the happy football star took to his official social media page to celebrate his monumental achievement with fans across Nigeria and Turkey, posting a striking photo of himself wearing traditional Turkish clothes alongside a brand-new cultural nickname.
Sharing the striking picture of himself dressed in fine traditional Turkish regalia alongside a bold message about his future on the football field, Kelechi Iheanacho wrote: “We go ball till eternity, Kelechi Agabey.”
In Turkish language and culture, the word “Agabey” is a special title of respect given to an elder brother, leader, or important boss in the community.
During the away league match against Muglaspor, the Nigerian striker thought he had given his team the lead earlier in the second half, but video assistant referees cancelled the goal because of an offside position.
Describing how the striker bounced back to score two clear goals and set up a third goal for his teammate after his first effort was cancelled, official match updates noted: “The former Manchester City and Leicester City striker thought he had opened the scoring in the 51st minute, but the goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review. He made no mistake seven minutes later to make it 1-0, completed his brace in the 79th minute and then set up substitute Hüseyin Maldar for the third goal four minutes later.”

Since joining the Turkish club from Scottish side Celtic, the clinical Nigerian striker has scored fourteen goals and provided three assists across ten league appearances for Bursaspor, breaking an old historical record set by Turkish football legend Metin Oktay back in 1963.
Confirming his total goal record and his extraordinary scoring form across both club football and international duties with the Nigerian national team, match reports highlighted: “The 30 year old has now scored in 10 consecutive league matches, and he is the first player to do so in Turkish professional league football. He has scored in all 10 games he has played for Bursaspor, and including his appearance for the Super Eagles, he has found the net in 11 straight matches.”
The important three-point win away from home has pushed Bursaspor into second position on the Turkish 1. Lig league table with twenty-two points, putting the team in a strong position to secure automatic promotion to the top-flight Turkish Super Lig next season.
Detailing the current league positions and the upcoming match schedule for the team, sports commentators noted: “The win lifts Bursaspor to second in the Turkish 1. Lig with 22 points, which is two ahead of 3rd placed Iğdır FK and three behind leaders Kayserispor. That position is one of the two automatic promotion places to the Turkish Super Lig. They host Pendikspor on Monday.”
Football fans across Nigeria and Turkey continue to praise the star striker as he prepares for his next match.
