Jensen Huang, the billionaire CEO of NVIDIA, says the strict and demanding way he was raised by his Taiwanese parents played a major role in helping him build one of the most powerful companies in modern history.

Speaking during a recent interview, Huang revealed how constant criticism at home taught him to push harder, improve faster, and never become too comfortable with success. According to him, those same lessons later became part of Nvidia’s culture as the company grew from a struggling startup into the dominant force behind the global artificial intelligence boom.

“Nothing is ever good enough,” Huang said while reflecting on his upbringing. He explained that he now applies a similar mindset inside Nvidia, where direct criticism and immediate feedback are common parts of daily work.

His comments quickly spread across business and technology circles, especially since Nvidia now sits at the center of the worldwide AI race. The company’s chips power many of the world’s leading artificial intelligence systems, including products developed by companies such as OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and Meta. Demand for Nvidia hardware has exploded globally as businesses rush to build AI infrastructure and advanced data centers. Huang insists the demanding environment inside Nvidia is not about fear or humiliation. His focus, according to him, is growth and excellence. According to the company’s latest sustainability report, employee turnover during fiscal year 2025 was only 2.5%. Around 20% of employees have remained at Nvidia for more than ten years, while roughly 40% have stayed at least five years.  Those figures surprised many analysts considering how intense Huang himself describes the company culture. Huang himself is now among the richest people in the world, with his fortune climbing sharply alongside Nvidia’s growing dominance in artificial intelligence. His popularity has also expanded far beyond the tech industry. Recent visits to Taiwan reportedly drew huge crowds around him, with local media using the word “Jensanity” to describe the excitement surrounding the billionaire executive. The Nvidia CEO often speaks openly about hardship, sacrifice, and resilience in leadership.

In earlier interviews, Huang explained that building successful companies involves pain, pressure, and periods of uncertainty most outsiders never see. He once revealed that Nvidia nearly collapsed financially during the 1990s before a breakthrough product helped save the company from disaster.

Those difficult experiences appear to have shaped his belief that pressure can strengthen people rather than weaken them. “Pressure creates greatness,” many observers now say while describing Nvidia’s internal culture. “The company powering the AI revolution is being led by a man who believes criticism drives excellence.” His remarks also sparked major debate online. Some people praised Huang’s honesty, arguing that high standards and direct feedback are necessary for building world changing companies.

Others criticized the approach, warning that constant criticism can lead to stress, burnout, and unhealthy work environments if taken too far. Born in Taiwan before moving to the United States as a child, he reportedly faced bullying, culture shock, and difficult living conditions during his early years in America. Years later, he co founded Nvidia inside a Denny’s restaurant in 1993 with no guarantee the company would survive.

Today, the same company stands at the center of the global AI economy. Despite his enormous success, Huang still presents himself as someone obsessed with improvement rather than comfort.
