Kano By-Election: Gov Yusuf Says NDC Lacks Real Political Strength

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has said the Kano by-election result has exposed the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political movement with little influence in the state.

According to him, the outcome reflects the party’s weak grassroots presence and growing voter confidence in his administration.

Governor Says Result Reflects Political Reality

Speaking after the election, Yusuf said the Kano by-election proved that the NDC has not built enough support to compete with established political parties in the state.

He described the party as a movement that has failed to connect with the people despite its recent political activities. The governor maintained that public support is earned through consistent engagement with voters rather than political publicity.

Yusuf Commends Voters and Electoral Officials

The governor praised residents who came out to vote peacefully during the Kano by-election. He also commended security agencies and electoral officials for ensuring the exercise was conducted in an orderly manner.

Yusuf noted that peaceful elections remain essential to strengthening democracy and urged political actors to respect the will of the electorate.

NDC Yet to Gain Strong Foothold, Governor Insists

According to Yusuf, the Kano by-election has shown that the NDC still lacks the political structure needed to challenge dominant parties in the state.

He said the outcome should encourage political groups to focus on building grassroots support instead of relying on public attention. The governor added that his administration would remain focused on delivering projects and policies that improve the lives of Kano residents.

Attention Turns to 2027 Elections

Political observers believe the by-election offers an early indication of how parties may perform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yusuf expressed confidence that the result reflects the current political mood in Kano.
