Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai will remain in custody after a Federal High Court rejected his request to vary his bail conditions.
The ruling means the El-Rufai bail request to adjust his bail terms failed. The court ordered that he stays in detention until he meets the conditions already set.
El-Rufai asked the court to review his bail terms. He said the conditions were too strict and hard to fulfil. His lawyers argued that easing the terms would allow him to attend his trial without staying in custody.
The court disagreed with his request. The judge said the defence gave no strong reason to change the earlier ruling. The court therefore kept the original bail conditions in place.
After the ruling, security officials returned El-Rufai to custody. He will remain there unless he meets the bail requirements or the court changes its order later.
The case continues to draw attention across Nigeria. Many people follow the trial because of El-Rufai’s status as a former governor and public figure.
Daily post Observers have tracked each stage of the trial since it began. Every court session has brought new developments.
On Tuesday, the former governor suffered another setback. His legal team had pushed for approval of the El-Rufai bail request, but the court refused it.
Legal analysts say the ruling does not address guilt or innocence. It only confirms that the court sees no reason to change the bail terms at this stage.
The prosecution will continue presenting its case at the next hearing. The defence will also respond and challenge the allegations in court.
The court has fixed another date for the hearing. Both sides will return with further arguments and evidence.

For now, El-Rufai remains in custody under the existing order. The El-Rufai bail request has failed, and the trial continues.
