British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has arrived in the capital city of Kyiv for his very first official overseas trip since taking office.
The landmark diplomatic visit takes place on Monday, August 24, 2026, coinciding directly with Ukraine’s 35th Independence Day celebrations.
Stepping off the train into the heart of the war torn nation, the new British leader met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and senior European officials to chair a high level meeting of international allies.
The official visit sends a clear global message that the United Kingdom remains firmly committed to helping Ukraine defend its sovereign borders against Russian military attacks.
The main reason for making Kyiv his first international destination is to prove that Britain’s military, financial, and political support will stay strong regardless of leadership changes in London.
