Police officers in Bauchi State have arrested a man named Balarabe Adamu for allegedly abusing his eight-month-old stepdaughter.
Official statements released by the police command on Thursday, August 27, 2026, confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody following a report lodged by the baby’s family.
The shocking incident occurred inside the Lame community located within Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The main reason why the police moved quickly to arrest the stepfather is that a formal report reached officers at the Gumau Police Division on Wednesday afternoon around 5:30.
The complaint stated that the suspect abused the baby girl shortly after her mother brought her home. As soon as police officers received the report, emergency teams rushed the 8 month old baby to the General Hospital in Toro, so medical doctors could examine her body and give her urgent medical treatment.
Police detectives then searched the area, located the stepfather, and locked him up in a cell so he could answer questions about the crime.

The Bauchi State Police Command assured the public that the case is being properly checked and handled according to the law.
The state Police Commissioner made it clear that sexual crimes against young children will not be hidden or tolerated, promising that thorough investigations will be carried out to bring justice to the victim.
Explaining the exact details of the incident and how officers caught the suspect, the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Nafiu Habib, released an official statement on behalf of Police Commissioner Sani Omolori Aliyu.
Sharing details of the report, SP Nafiu Habib stated that a complaint was made alleging that Balarabe Adamu “sexually abused his 8 month old stepdaughter, who was brought to his residence by his wife”.
Giving an update on the suspect’s current status, SP Nafiu Habib added that “upon receipt of the report, operatives attached to Gumau Division swiftly responded and arrested the suspect. He is currently in custody and undergoing investigation”.
So many residents are shocked by the incident, demanding that the suspect face full legal consequences once the police finish their work.
