The Inspector General of Police ordered all commands to urgently submit names of junior officers holding PhDs, master’s, and law degrees.
Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu has issued an urgent order to all police commands and formations across the country.
He told all commanders to compile and send a complete list of serving inspectors and junior officers who have gone to university and acquired high academic qualifications like doctoral degrees (PhDs), master’s degrees, and Bachelor of Laws certificates (LLBs).
The official message was sent out through a direct police wireless signal from the Force Secretary’s Office in Abuja on Monday, September 14, 2026, marked as extremely urgent.
All state police commands, police colleges, and training schools were instructed to gather these records and hand them over to Force Headquarters no later than Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
The main reason why the police chief is asking for this information right now is to properly identify educated officers sitting in low ranks so the authorities can figure out where best to deploy their skills or give them proper promotions.
In many police stations across Nigeria, there are junior officers and inspectors who went back to school on their own to study tough courses like law, crime prevention, and higher business management.
However, because of past administrative delays, many of these highly educated personnel remain stuck doing basic station work or patrol duties while holding master’s degrees or PhDs.
By collecting both their degree certificates and their current posting signals, the Force Headquarters wants to build a full picture of where educated officers are serving and how to use their special knowledge effectively.

The official wireless signal sent from Abuja emphasized the extreme urgency of the exercise to all commanders.
Setting out the strict command directive to all police units, the official message stated, “IGP directs, as a matter of urgency, that you forward a list of inspectors/rank and file serving under you who are holders of doctorate degrees, master’s degrees or LLB, in addition to their posting signals, on or before 16/09/2026″.
Stressing that no commander should delay or ignore the directive, the message repeated, “I repeat, on or before 16/09/2026. Treat as very important”.
The order was directed to the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Training and Development, all state Commissioners of Police, and heads of police colleges across the country.
Reports from independent news outlets and police labor observers confirm that the Police Service Commission works hand in hand with police leadership when upgrading qualified inspectors to higher ranks like Assistant Superintendent of Police.
While holding a degree does not mean an automatic jump in rank, this new audit will help identify hidden talent within the police force so that officers who worked hard to educate themselves can be properly recognized.
