Religious organisations in Kaduna State have received a boost after Governor Uba Sani donated 39 vehicles to support their activities and promote peaceful coexistence.
The donation covers Muslim and Christian organisations, including the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). According to Daily Post, the vehicles will also support efforts to promote peaceful and credible elections in Kaduna State and across the country.
The governor was represented at the presentation by his Director General of Interfaith, Malam Tahir Umar Tahir.
During the event, Tahir raised concerns about possible attempts by politicians to disrupt public peace ahead of the coming elections. He alleged that some politicians who expect to lose are already planning to cause trouble before, during or after the polls. He also explained how the governor decided to extend the vehicle donation to more religious organisations.
According to Tahir, the First Aid Group of Fityanul Islam had earlier requested six buses during its national seminar and award ceremony in August. The group wanted the vehicles to strengthen its peacebuilding activities.
Governor Sani initially promised to provide four buses for the group. Two would go to its national body, while the other two would serve its Kaduna State chapter.
However, the governor later extended the support to other religious organisations. Tahir explained that the First Aid Groups of other Islamic sects and the Boys Brigade of the Christian faith were also included.
He added that the governor directed the distribution of Hummer buses to the Kaduna chapters of JNI and CAN. Other Islamic sects and Christian groups would also receive vehicles to support their religious activities.
Meanwhile, Tahir assured organisations that did not benefit from the current distribution that they would receive consideration in future donations. He also highlighted the governor’s relationship with different religious groups since assuming office.
According to him, the administration has involved religious leaders in distributing government benefits. He cited free fertiliser distribution and political appointments as examples of the administration’s engagement with both faiths.
Tahir further urged religious leaders to pray for the governor ahead of the next election. He referenced teachings in Islam and Christianity that encourage prayers for leaders and people who show kindness.
Representatives of JNI and CAN in Kaduna State thanked the governor for the donation. They also promised to continue praying for peace and development across the state.
