The Accord Party has urged President Bola Tinubu to protect the integrity of the Osun governorship election.The appeal followed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s decision to freeze the state government’s accounts.
According to Daily Post, the party believes the move could affect the election.Furthermore, Accord said the EFCC’s action came at a sensitive time. The party warned that the decision could raise political tension before voters head to the polls.
Speaking through its National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, the party called on President Tinubu to guarantee a free and credible election. He said every political party deserves a level playing field.
Mgbudem urged all government institutions to remain neutral. He stressed that voters should decide the outcome through the ballot.
However, the party argued that freezing the state’s accounts could disrupt government activities. It added that such actions may reduce public confidence in the electoral process.
In addition, Accord appealed to security agencies to remain professional. It asked them to protect voters and maintain peace throughout the election period.
Meanwhile, political activities have increased across Osun State. Several stakeholders have also called for a transparent and peaceful governorship election.
Therefore, Accord urged the Federal Government to protect democracy in the state. The party insisted that every vote should count.
Finally, the party said a credible election would strengthen public trust in Nigeria’s democracy. It maintained that the people of Osun should choose their next governor without interference.
