The Nigeria Democratic Congress published the names of eight party members shot by thugs during a meeting in Enugu State.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress has officially published the full names of 8 party members who suffered serious gunshot wounds during a violent invasion of their monthly ward gathering in Enugu State.
Party leadership released the official list of victims following the attack that happened on Saturday afternoon, September 12, 2026, in Ihuani Awkunanaw, located inside Obuofia, Nkanu West Local Government Area.
The venue of the violence is the hometown of Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa, who is the party’s candidate preparing to run for governor of Enugu State.
Party faithful had gathered for their routine sensitisation and mobilization meeting when unknown gunmen suddenly stormed the area and opened heavy fire.
The main reason why the political party made the names public is to show the world the physical danger their members face and to force police authorities to act quickly.
According to official statements from party representatives, armed hoodlums arrived at the peaceful gathering unexpectedly, shooting directly into the crowd of seated supporters.
The sudden gunshots caused immediate panic, sending men and women running into nearby bushes for safety. Apart from shooting people, the attackers destroyed shade tents, broke plastic sitting chairs, and carried away vital meeting documents belonging to the political organization.

Sharing the exact identities of the victims, the party media team confirmed that 8 people were hit by bullets and are currently receiving emergency treatment in hospitals.
Listing the names of those wounded in the shooting, the media aide to the governorship candidate, Sampson Ukwu, stated that “Eight party members were identified as sustaining gunshot injuries in the attack. They are Onovo Donald Ekene, Ngene Godwin Madueke, Ogbodo Gloria, Onovo Victor, Maduabuchi Ugwu, Nnaemeka Nelson, Chinonso Nwagbara and Obinna Daniel Owo”.
Expressing deep sadness over the continuous attacks against opposition groups, Sampson Ukwu added that “no political party or group of hoodlums has the right to turn the streets of Enugu into a battlefield or to attack citizens for exercising their constitutional rights”.
Reassuring supporters that the party will not back down despite the danger, the NDC governorship candidate, Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa, declared that “the entire NDC family in Enugu State remain undeterred. We will not be intimidated. We will not abandon our people. We will continue our peaceful and issue-based campaign until the will of Ndi Enugu prevails”
Formal legal updates and statements released by the National Leadership of the party show that opposition leaders have submitted an official complaint demanding that police commanders and the Department of State Services arrest the gunmen immediately.
