A Paris court has awarded reality television star Kim Kardashian 1 euro ($1.15) in compensation for the traumatic 2016 armed robbery she endured in the French capital, matching the exact nominal amount she had requested.
The ruling, delivered on Tuesday, marks a definitive legal conclusion to a case that has haunted the celebrity for nearly a decade. Kardashian and her stylist, Simone Harouche, who was also present during the heist and was similarly awarded 1 euro, expressed their gratitude to the French justice system in a joint statement.
“The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us,” the statement read. “Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition. We are thankful to the Court and everyone who supported us throughout this process, and we hope to now move forward and continue to heal.”
The infamous 2016 incident occurred during Paris Fashion Week when two men, disguised as police officers, forced their way into Kardashian’s suite at the Hôtel de Pourtalès. They bound the star with zip ties and tape before making off with over $6 million worth of jewelry, including a highly publicized diamond ring she had worn to a Givenchy show earlier that evening.
The perpetrators, six of whom were in their 60s and 70s at the time of their trial, became infamously known in France as “les papys braqueurs,” or the grandpa robbers. Last year, eight individuals were found guilty of armed robbery, kidnapping, and gang association. Due to time already served in pretrial detention, none of the convicted men were returned to prison, and none have appealed the verdict.

While Kardashian’s compensation was purely symbolic, the court did award significant damages to other parties impacted by the heist. A former receptionist at the hotel, who testified about the lasting psychological trauma of the event, was awarded 109,516 euros ($126,472) of the 550,000 euros he had sought. The hotel itself was awarded 50,000 euros ($57,741).
For Kardashian, the nominal payout is a deliberate choice, shifting the focus from financial restitution to moral vindication. In a world where celebrity trauma is often commodified, this single euro stands as a quiet but firm declaration: some wounds are not meant to be priced, only acknowledged.
