A PDP leader warned that President Tinubu risks losing Enugu votes in 2027 if the Federal Government fails to stop political violence.
A prominent political leader in the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Basil Ani, has warned that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu faces a very big risk of losing voter support across Enugu State during the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The senior party official issued a strong public statement from Enugu on Sunday, September 13, 2026, following a series of violent attacks on political gatherings in local communities.
Community leaders, traditional rulers, and residents across the state are becoming increasingly angry over recurring shootings and property destruction targeted at political meetings.
The PDP chieftain explained that if the Federal Government fails to step in and stop these violent disruptions, voters in Enugu will express their anger directly through protest votes against the President at the ballot box.
The main reason why the political chieftain sounded this alarm is that people feel the central government in Abuja is ignoring the security dangers in the South East region.
In recent weeks, armed hoodlums have repeatedly stormed peaceful party gatherings in Nkanu West Local Government Area, including attacks on PDP ward meetings at Akpugo Ward 3 and Obe Ward, as well as a recent incident on September 12 where over eight members suffered gunshot wounds.
Chief Ani pointed out that local anger, which started as opposition to state level leaders, has now turned against the Federal Government because police have failed to publicly arrest and prosecute the gunmen responsible for the violence.

Calling on the Federal Government to take immediate legal action and protect democratic rights, Chief Basil Ani shared his deep concerns in a clear statement.
Asking if citizens are still safe to practice politics in their home state, Chief Ani asked, “The allegations are grave and raise a much larger question: Can citizens freely participate in political activities in Enugu State without fear of violence or intimidation?”
Urging security forces to arrest bad actors regardless of which party they belong to, the PDP leader stated that “The Federal Government should not view the situation through the narrow prism of rivalry between parties. If PDP members are attacked, investigate it. If APC members are attacked, investigate it. If supporters of any other political party are attacked, investigate it”.
Warning the President directly about the political danger ahead in 2027, Chief Ani emphasized that “The President does not need to take sides in the Enugu political contest. He needs to take the side of democracy. The warning signs are already visible. The question is whether Abuja is paying attention”.
