Police in Kano arrested 35 year old Adamu Musa for using fake AI photos to pose as a senior police officer to scam people.
Police officers from the Panshekara Division of the Kano State Police Command have arrested a 35 year old man named Adamu Musa for posing as a senior police officer to collect money from innocent people.
The police made the arrest around 7:30pm after receiving clear reports and secret information about the man’s illegal activities in the area.
Adamu Musa, who lives at Kureken Sani Quarters in Kano, was caught after he kept telling people that he was a Chief Superintendent of Police, also known as a CSP.
He claimed that his high position in the police force gave him strong power to help young people get easy jobs during police recruitment drives and get posted to good locations across the country.
The main reason why police officers arrested the suspect and took him into custody is that he was using modern computer tricks, artificial intelligence, and edited photos to lie to members of the public.
In Nigeria, it is a very big crime for anyone to wear police clothes or pretend to be a police officer when they are not. Adamu Musa used fake artificial intelligence pictures where he put his own face next to top police bosses so people would believe he was a real officer with power.
He then took money from job seekers who were looking for work in the Nigeria Police Force. When police searched his house, they found two pairs of police shoes, different police clothes, black jackets, camouflage uniforms, and three hundred thousand Naira cash.
The police command confirmed that the suspect will be taken to court as soon as officers finish all their investigations.
Explaining how the suspect tricked his victims, police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa released an official statement.
Revealing the trick used by the fake officer, the police spokesman said that “to lend credibility to his fraud, the suspect circulated edited photographs and AI generated images of himself superimposed with very senior strategic commanders of the Nigeria Police Force”.
Warning citizens to be careful and stop giving money to people claiming to sell job slots, police officers advised everyone to follow official channels.
Emphasizing the continuous fight against fraud, police representatives stated that “the suspect is currently in custody and will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation”.
Police officers in Kano are asking other victims who paid money to this fake officer to come forward and help with the case.
