Six people died in a fatal road accident along the Yola-Girei Road in Adamawa State on Friday.
A tragic car crash along the busy Yola Girei Road in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State has taken the lives of six people.
The painful incident occurred on Friday, September 4, 2026, creating heavy grief among residents and road users.
Emergency responders, local eyewitnesses, and police officers immediately rushed to the scene to rescue the victims and carry them to the nearest hospital.
However, medical doctors on duty confirmed that all six victims died from severe injuries sustained during the violent impact.
The main reason behind the swift response by security teams was to clear the damaged vehicles off the busy road, save lives where possible, and stop traffic jams from blocking other drivers.
Officers from the Girei Divisional Headquarters, the Federal Housing Station, and the Central Motor Traffic Division worked together to secure the crash zone and allow cars to move freely again.
Preliminary reports show that this latest tragedy marks the fourth major accident recorded along the dangerous Yola-Girei highway in less than one month, bringing the total number of dead victims on that single road stretch to over ten people.
The Adamawa State Police Command expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and urged every driver using state highways to slow down and drive carefully.
Sharing details of the tragedy with newsmen, the spokesperson for the state police command outlined the quick actions taken by rescue teams.

Giving an official update on the rescue effort, SP Suleiman Nguroje stated that “a preliminary report indicated that six people lost their lives in the crash. The victims were rushed to a hospital where they were confirmed dead. Police operatives from Girei Divisional Headquarters, Federal Housing and the Central Motor Traffic Division were immediately mobilised to the scene to evacuate the victims and restore the normal flow of traffic”.
Expressing deep condolences to the families grieving the loss of their loved ones, Commissioner of Police CP Kabir Hassan appealed to the public for calm.
Delivering the police chief’s warning to all drivers, SP Suleiman Nguroje added that the commissioner “commiserated with the families of the deceased and prayed for the repose of their souls. He appealed for calm, urging motorists to drive with caution, obey traffic rules and avoid overspeeding to prevent further loss of lives”. Police investigators are examining the crash scene to determine the exact cause of the collision.
