Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has dismissed reports claiming he is working behind the scenes to become the running mate of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2027 presidential election.
The governor described the reports as mere speculation. According to him, there is no arrangement, discussion, or political deal linking him to a potential Jonathan presidential ticket.
His response comes as political conversations around the 2027 elections continue to gather pace across the country. In recent weeks, several politicians have been linked to possible alliances and power-sharing deals. However, Mohammed insists that the rumours surrounding him are not true.
“Bala Mohammed Denies Plan to Become Jonathan’s Running Mate
Speaking on the issue, the Bauchi governor said he is not seeking a vice-presidential slot under anyone.
He explained that discussions about who becomes a running mate should only happen after a presidential candidate emerges. For now, he believes politicians should focus on issues that matter to Nigerians rather than engage in endless speculation.
Mohammed stressed that his attention remains on leadership, governance, and strengthening democratic institutions ahead of the next election cycle.
Relationship With Jonathan Does Not Mean Alliance
The governor also addressed reports linking his relationship with Goodluck Jonathan to a possible political partnership.
While acknowledging that he has great respect for the former president, Mohammed said people should not mistake mutual respect for a political arrangement.
He noted that maintaining a cordial relationship with Jonathan does not automatically translate into plans for a joint ticket in 2027.
According to him, there has been no conversation about becoming Jonathan’s running mate.
Focus on Nigeria, Not Political Calculations
Mohammed urged political stakeholders to concentrate on finding solutions to the country’s economic and security challenges.
He argued that Nigerians are more interested in good governance than in rumours about future election tickets.
The governor added that the country needs leaders who can unite people and offer practical solutions to national problems.
As preparations for the 2027 election gradually begin, political observers expect more alliances, consultations, and negotiations across party lines.
Nevertheless, Bala Mohammed says his focus remains on serving the people and contributing to the growth of democracy rather than pursuing any vice-presidential ambition.
For now, he wants the public to ignore the speculation and focus on facts.
