The political race in Kano is already starting to take shape ahead of the 2027 elections, with hundreds of APC members making a move that could get people talking.
according to Daily Post, the members have left the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, in Takai Local Government Area of Kano State.
The defectors were received into the NDC on Saturday by Dr Kassim Ibrahim Bataiya, the party’s senatorial candidate for Kano South. Their decision comes as political parties begin to strengthen their support base across the state ahead of the next general election.
For the NDC, bringing in hundreds of new members could give the party a stronger presence in Takai. It also gives its supporters more people to work with as the party prepares for the political battles ahead. The move, however, puts the spotlight on the APC’s ability to keep its members together.
Kano has always been an important state in Nigeria’s political calculations. With its large voting population, what happens at the local level can sometimes have a much bigger effect when elections arrive. That is what makes the latest development in Takai worth watching.
The NDC has also been attracting attention in Kano following the involvement of former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in the party. Kwankwaso is now the NDC’s vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 election, placing the party in a stronger position to challenge for political influence in the state.
