MTN Nigeria has confirmed a major network outage affecting calls and data services in Lagos, FCT, Oyo, Rivers, and Delta states.

The biggest telecommunications company in Nigeria, MTN Nigeria, has publicly confirmed that its network services are currently down, leaving millions of customers unable to make phone calls, send text messages, or browse the internet smoothly.

The major telecommunications provider officially broke the news to the public on Thursday evening, October 8, 2026, after thousands of frustrated subscribers across major cities in the country began complaining about sudden network failure on their mobile phones.

The network problem is affecting millions of users living in key business centers and capital cities across the nation. Official updates released by the company show that the network failure is happening in parts of Lagos State, Oyo State, Rivers State, Delta State, and the Federal Capital Territory, which many people know as Abuja.

Due to this technical issue, many people trying to use their MTN lines to call family members, perform bank transfers, or run their daily businesses online have been facing severe difficulties.

Taking to its official social media handle on X to explain the situation directly to its customers, the management of MTN Nigeria issued a clear statement to warn subscribers about the ongoing network breakdown.

Releasing the official warning update to the public, the telecommunications company stated: “Network Outage Alert! We’re experiencing network challenges in some parts of Oyo, Lagos, Rivers, FCT and Delta States, and our services may be temporarily unavailable as a result.”

Knowing how much everyday people depend on phone network to earn a living, do business, and stay in touch with loved ones, the network provider assured members of the public that its technical team and engineers have already moved into the field to fix the technical fault.

Begging its customers to remain calm while the technical team works on the problem, MTN added: “Our engineers are working to restore services as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

In a follow-up message sent out to address the rising complaints from worried users who could not access internet data or make urgent calls, the company sent another direct apology message to reassure subscribers that the issue would soon be over.

Apologizing directly to affected users, the company declared: “Dear Customer, we are aware some of our customers are having challenges using our services. Our engineers are working to restore services as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.”

However, the company did not give the main reason behind the sudden network failure, nor did it state the exact time or hour when full network services will be completely restored across all affected areas.

This new network disruption is hitting subscribers at a time when telecom companies are working under strict regulations set by the Nigerian Communications Commission to improve service quality nationwide.

Many affected citizens are currently waiting patiently for the engineers to finish their repairs so that normal communication and online activities can return to normal across the country.
