The Federal Government has promised to work more closely with the Lagos State Government to tackle persistent flooding and improve water infrastructure across the state.
According to Daily Post, the renewed commitment is expected to strengthen Lagos flood control and protect residents from the growing impact of climate change.
The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, made the pledge during a courtesy visit to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at Lagos House in Marina. He also expressed sympathy to residents affected by recent flooding in parts of the state.
Utsev said the Federal Government is ready to deepen its partnership with Lagos to improve Lagos flood control through better drainage systems, stronger water infrastructure, and effective urban planning. He added that closer cooperation between both governments is necessary to reduce flood risks.
The minister also revealed that the 2026 Annual Flood Outlook listed Lagos among the 33 states expected to face a high risk of flooding this year. He stressed the importance of early preparation, improved warning systems, and coordinated action to minimise the impact of future floods.

Governor Sanwo-Olu welcomed the renewed commitment and assured the minister that the state would continue working with the Federal Government. He said the partnership would help strengthen Lagos flood control, expand access to clean water, and improve sanitation services for residents.
