JAMB gives step-by-step guide for candidates who lost SIM cards or emails to update their portal details using court affidavits.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB), has released a simple, step-by-step explanation on how candidates who lost their registered phone numbers or email addresses can change them on the official portal.
Many young people who wrote or are preparing for university exams have been crying out because they lost their SIM cards or forgot the passwords to their email accounts, making it impossible to check their results or receive important messages about university admissions.
To solve this big problem, the exam body opened a special portal service on Monday and went further on Wednesday to release an instructional video and public guide explaining exactly what students must do to fix their records.
The main reason why JAMB created this step-by-step guide is to make sure genuine candidates are not blocked from getting admission into higher institutions just because they lost their phone or email.
In the past, JAMB completely stopped people from changing phone numbers and emails because bad people and examination fraudsters were using the process to steal other students’ profiles and change their admission details.
However, JAMB has now built stronger security tools that use fingerprints and legal documents to check who is real. This allows real candidates to update their records safely while stopping criminals from tricking the system.
Explaining the new help available to students in an official video and public message, the exam body made it known that candidates no longer need to panic when their SIM card gets lost or blocked.
Giving hope to affected students across the country, JAMB officially stated that “candidates who lost their SIM card can now swap it with a new one. And those who also lost access to their email addresses on the JAMB portal can now change to a new one”.
To follow the simple step-by-step method, JAMB explained that affected candidates must first go to a High Court to obtain a formal paper called an affidavit that proves they truly lost their phone number or email.
After getting this court paper, the candidate must log into their online JAMB profile through the e-Facility website, navigate to the penalties section, and select the SIM Swap or Email Change payment option to pay the necessary fee.

Once payment is done, the student must physically walk into an officially approved JAMB CBT center or JAMB State Office with their profile code, where staff will scan their fingers for biometric verification, upload the court affidavit, and enter the new phone number or email address.
Warning candidates to be very careful when filling in their new details because the system will not allow multiple changes.
JAMB emphasized that “the service can be accessed only once, meaning candidates should ensure that the information they provide during the process is accurate”.
Candidates are strictly warned not to go to roadside cybercafés or patronize illegal agents who claim they can change details online.
Education experts note that fingerprint scanning at official centers is the only way to complete the update successfully.
