Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a man in connection with the alleged murder of his 35-year-old girlfriend, whose body was discovered under suspicious circumstances earlier this month.
The suspect, identified as Manaseh Bitrus Jatau, is currently being interrogated over the death of Rebecca Ojoniko Jeremiah. According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansur Hassan, Jeremiah’s lifeless body was found on September 5 along Mai Angwa Street in the Romi area, with cotton wool reportedly stuffed in her nostrils.
Police detectives from the Romi Outstation initially rushed her to St. Gerald Hospital in Kakuri, where she was pronounced dead by a medical doctor. Her remains were subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Jatau was the last person to communicate with the deceased, having allegedly invited her to meet him at a local joint in Romi. Acting on this critical lead, detectives traced and arrested the suspect at his workplace, Tomato Jos Company, in the Maraban Jos area of Kaduna.

During interrogation, Jatau reportedly confessed to the crime. He admitted to investigators that a heated altercation broke out in his room over a phone call the deceased received from another woman. He claimed the physical fight resulted in her death, after which he dumped her body in an open field near his residence in a desperate attempt to conceal the incident.
DSP Hassan confirmed that the suspect remains in police custody as the investigation continues, and he will be formally arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the ongoing probe.
