Nigerian banking cyber security remains uncompromised despite recent international attacks, protecting deposits across banks.
Nigerian banks have moved swiftly to contain a sophisticated global cyber campaign, with industry sources reassuring the public that the country’s financial system remains resilient and secure.
Analysts describe the intrusion as one of the most coordinated attack waves in years striking not only financial institutions, but telecom, healthcare, energy, tech and government sectors across Europe, Asia, the Americas and Africa.
According to cybersecurity firm Check Point, attacks on the global financial sector surged by 115% last year with institutions facing thousands of weekly intrusion attempts. The latest global campaign has been linked to threat actors targeting more than 35 organizations across multiple countries and industries.
Despite the wave of attacks, Nigerian banking services and digital platforms remain fully operational with customer funds secure. Financial institutions activated their incident response plans immediately coordinating with regulators, law enforcement and global cyber partners to reinforce defenses.
Driven by years of continuous investment in data and asset protection, Nigerian banks deploy some of the most advanced cybersecurity infrastructure in Africa.
Cybersecurity experts emphasize that true resilience in global cyber warfare comes down to speed and rigor of response rather than total immunity a claim no institution can make. By that benchmark, the banking sector has responded decisively and in complete compliance with regulatory standards.
The public is urged to remain vigilant. Cybercriminals frequently exploit security incidents by sending fake calls, texts and emails to trick customers into sharing sensitive data. Banks will never ask for passwords, PINs, One-Time Passwords (OTPs), card details or Bank Verification Numbers (BVNs). Customers should also refrain from opening suspicious links, emails or attachments.

Any unusual account activity should be reported immediately to the bank through verified official channels including official websites, mobile apps, customer care lines or local branches.
As governments and corporations worldwide race to reinforce digital defenses, Nigeria’s banking industry offers a clear message of calm and confidence: the financial system is secure, customer deposits are safe, and institutions remain vigilant and prepared.
