Several states across Nigeria could experience rain and thunderstorms between Monday to Wednesday, according to the latest forecast from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
According to Daily Post, the weather agency released a three-day forecast covering August 31 to September 2, with different parts of the country expected to experience rainfall at various times. The forecast shows that the North could see thunderstorms and moderate rain on Monday.
Parts of Taraba, Adamawa and Kaduna are expected to experience the weather activity in the morning. By afternoon and evening, the conditions could spread to areas including Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano and Katsina. The North-Central region is also expected to experience some rainfall.
NiMet listed parts of Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Kogi and Benue, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, among areas that could record thunderstorms and moderate rain during the day. Several southern states could also have rainfall on Monday.
Parts of Ondo, Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Lagos and Bayelsa are expected to see rain in the morning. More thunderstorms and moderate rainfall could follow across parts of the region later in the day. The pattern is expected to continue on Tuesday, although the affected areas could change.
In the North, parts of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi, Adamawa and Taraba could experience morning thunderstorms and rain. Later in the day, Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina and Kaduna are among the states that could record thunderstorms and moderate rainfall.
The South could also remain wet, with parts of Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Lagos and Rivers likely to experience morning rainfall. NiMet expects thunderstorms and moderate rain to become more widespread across parts of the region later on Tuesday.
By Wednesday, rainfall is still expected in several parts of the country. Parts of Bauchi, Jigawa and Yobe could experience morning thunderstorms and light rain, while other areas in the North may see more rainfall later in the day.
The North-Central region could also record thunderstorms and moderate rain during the afternoon and evening. In the South, NiMet expects generally cloudy conditions, with morning rainfall possible in parts of Edo, Cross River, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Rivers.
The agency also noted that strong winds could accompany some thunderstorms during the forecast period. Residents are advised to take precautions when thunderstorms occur, particularly by securing loose items around their homes.
Motorists should also exercise caution on wet roads, especially where heavy rainfall affects visibility or causes flooding. People living in areas prone to flooding are encouraged to stay informed about local weather conditions.
The forecast covers three days, but local weather conditions can change. Residents are therefore advised to follow further updates from NiMet and other relevant authorities.
