Nigerian rapper Speed Darlington popularly known as Akpi has explained why he plans to support Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election.
According to him, their shared Igbo background is the main reason behind his decision, not Obi’s intelligence or public speeches. The singer made this known in a post on his Instagram page. He openly said his support for the former Anambra State governor was based on their tribe.
“I am going to support Peter Obi for president. Not because I see or hear the intelligence coming out of his mouth. I am supporting Peter Obi strictly because of tribe, because he is Igbo,” he wrote.
Speed Darlington also questioned the chances of other politicians who may contest the 2027 presidential election. He mentioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
He questioned what both men had achieved after spending several years in public office. He also expressed his unwillingness to support another Fulani president.
“The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know. Atiku and Amaechi have been statesmen for years, what did they accomplish? Who even wants a Fulani president?” he asked.
The rapper also had something to say about the campaign promises made by Nigerian politicians. He criticised politicians who continue to use road construction as a major campaign promise.
He said it was embarrassing that politicians were still campaigning with such promises in 2026. “Shame on all Nigerian politicians for still using road to campaign. It a big shame,” he added.
